Job Title: Part-Time Veterinary Technologists, Hydrotherapy and Rehabilitation Assistants

Location: The SPAW Pet Rehabilitation and Fitness located in South Surrey, British Columbia

Wage: $28-$30 per hour (starting wage) Multiple opportunities available

Schedule: Evening and Weekend Shifts to start.  Opportunity to work towards rehabilitation certification and role of rehabilitation therapist

Job Description:

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Technologists to join our rehabilitation team as Hydrotherapy and Rehabilitation Assistants. This role involves assisting with animal rehabilitation sessions, including operating an underwater treadmill, performing therapeutic exercises, and supporting patients through recovery

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in hydrotherapy sessions, including setup, operation, and sanitation of the underwater treadmill

• Interact with clients in a professional and compassionate manner, addressing questions and concerns about their pets rehabilitation process and seeking clarification from clinicians as necessary

• Provide guidance and education on at-home care, exercises, and post-therapy recommendations under the direction of our rehabilitation therapist and clinicians

• Facilitate care solutions by coordinating with the rehabilitation team to ensure each patient receives the appropriate treatment and support

• Support rehabilitation treatments such as therapeutic exercises and mobility assistance under the supervision of a qualified rehabilitation clinician

• Monitor patient responses to therapy and report progress to the supervising veterinarian or therapist via Jane App record keeping system

• Provide patient handling and restraint as needed

• Educate pet owners on rehabilitation exercises and home care instructions

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of rehabilitation and therapy areas

• Assist with casting and restraint for orthopets devices

Physical Requirements:

• This is a physically demanding role that involves assisting non ambulatory animals and animals with mobility challenges, including lifting, supporting, and repositioning them during therapy sessions.

• Requires frequent kneeling, bending, and getting up and down off the floor throughout shifts.

• Must be able to safely handle and move animals of various sizes.

Qualifications:

• Diploma in Veterinary Technology and Registration or eligibility to register with BCVTA

• Experience or interest in animal rehabilitation and hydrotherapy is an asset

• Experience working with surgical and non surgical orthopaedic and neurologic patients and an understanding of related conditions

• Knowledge of nutrition, osteoarthritis management, and pet weight management options

• Comfortable working with animals of all sizes, including those with mobility challenges

• Strong observational and communication skills

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team and keen to contribute to the growth and development of our rehabilitation and fitness centre.
